Few months back, I migrated my site from HostGator to SiteGround. I didn’t wrote the SiteGround review just after the migration because I wanted to test it for few months and then deliver the results in the form of a review.
Here, I am going to discuss why I migrated my websites from HostGator to SiteGround.
3 Years back, I hosted my domain on Hostgator as Hostgator and Bluehost were the only popular hosting companies at that time. I didn’t know about SiteGround or any other host companies.
Everything for good for a year and a half, though the customer support was poor at that time still I was able to manage as I faced no downtime, so I was happy with HostGator.
One day, I faced a downtime of 24 hours and I started losing traffic and sales. Live Support had a long queue and a waiting time of more than 2 hours. I opened a support ticket and got no response.
Still, I didn’t migrate my websites as I had no technical knowledge at that time, so I continued with HostGator itself.
But then after few weeks, I started getting frequent downtime, sometimes even 2-3 times a day.
Now, the downtime was very frequent, every month I got around 4-5 downtime.
But after 2-3 months, everything was fine again and customer support was also better than before as I used to get Live chat support within 2-3 minutes.
One of the scariest stories that I heard about HostGator was that it disabled one of the sites for using SEO plugin which was preventing the working of an another plugin to reduce the load on the servers generated by the site.
I was using baby plan of Hostgator and I also used to get emails regarding ‘Resource Limit Used‘ despite I had very low traffic at that time as I had just started blogging. For that, I used to delete unnecessary plugins to reduce the load on my server.
The downtime started again and the prices were also increased. I used to pay $59 for every 6 months which they increased to $71.70 for 6 months plan.
Now, there were 3 main reasons for making a migration decision:
Frequent downtime + High pricing + Poor customer service
SiteGround Review – Why I Migrated My Site To SiteGround?
Now, this was the time to look for a good and reliable web host. What I did was, I read best hosting reviews on Google and found SiteGround on the top. To confirm whether it’s a reliable host or not, I asked my friends about it but unfortunately, none of my friends were hosting their sites at SiteGround at that time.
I need to take a chance, I just went for a live chat at SiteGround and discussed how to migrate and who will migrate and discussed all the risk factors too.
They just said, “You don’t need to worry and we’ll migrate your website safely and all we need are the credentials of your previous host“. I still asked them, is there any risk?
They just asked me to sit and relax.
I bought the GrowBig plan and my all websites were migrated within 3 hours.
Uh-oh, I forgot to tell you why I chose SiteGround.
Here are some reasons which convinced me to buy SiteGround Web Hosting:
Speed and Security
SiteGround web hosting keeps speed and security on its top priority. SiteGround uses SSD (solid-state drives) on all plans which deliver your site faster loading times. They use latest speed technologies and make your website load blazing fast with NGINX, HTTP/2, PHP7 and also use unique SuperCacher for enhanced performance.
SiteGround takes daily backup of your websites, so you need not worry about your data. But still, to be on the safe side, I take regular backups of my websites. They regularly monitor the websites, so there are no chances of your website to be hacked.
2. Free Site Transfer Service
As told earlier, SiteGround migrated my website in a couple of hours and didn’t charge me a single penny. Mine wasn’t even down for a single minute during the time of migration.
And you know what… by mistake, I chose Singapore as my data center but as my audience was from the USA so, I contacted them to change my data center to Chicago (USA). They charge $30, in case you need to change the data center later on after the setup, but they did it for free. The support guy was so friendly and all the process went so smoothly without a single problem.
2. Ultimate Customer Support
Yeah, you read it right. SiteGround offers 24/7 support and it REALLY sticks to it. You get your query answered within seconds. It offers support through:
- Support Tickets
- Live Chat
Customer support was one of the main reasons which made me migrate my site to SiteGround and I am really glad that I have found a reliable hosting provider for my websites.
3. Free Domain and SSL
Do you see an SSL on my website?…
I got it with SiteGround Growbig Plan for free. Isn’t it amazing?
Besides that, they also give a free domain for 1 year if you haven’t already registered.
4. 99.9% Up-time
This is the most common feature which every host guarantees but very few hosting companies really mean it, and SiteGround is one of them. Since I have migrated my website from Hostgator to SiteGround, I haven’t faced a single downtime. Unbelievable, right?
5. 4 Data centers
Here, you have a choice to choose your own data center. SiteGround has 4 data centers in the following 3 continents:
- USA (Chicago)
- Europe (London and Amsterdam)
- Asia (Singapore)
My audience is mainly from the USA, so I went for Chicago data center.
Some other overwhelming features of SiteGround:
- Free website builder
- 30 days money back guarantee.
- Free daily backup
- Free App installs
- Free Email Accounts
- Official SiteGround Cache WordPress plugin for better speed performance
SiteGround Pricing Plans
SiteGround offers reasonable pricing structure than other web hosting companies. It offers 4 types of web hosting –
- Shared Hosting
- Cloud Hosting
- Dedicated Servers
- Reseller Hosting
If you’re just starting out, I will recommend you going for shared hosting as it is the best for blogs and small businesses. Siteground Shared Hosting consists of 3 different plans – StartUp, GrowBig, and GoGeek.
If you want to host a single website, then you can go for StartUp plan while if you want to host multiple domains, then you can go for GrowBig or GoGeek. Below are the pricing plans of SiteGround shared hosting:
- StartUp – $3.95/mo.
- GrowBig – $7.95/mo.
- GoGeek – $14.95/mo.
There’s not much difference between GrowBig and GoGeek plan. GrowBig is the best plan to start with. Once, you drive some good traffic and cross over 25000 visits monthly, then you can go for GoGeek plan.
Personal Message From The Editor
I am really glad that I have found a reliable web host for my sites. I was really very tensed due to frequent downtime at HostGator and was pissed off due to their poor support. After reading a lot of reviews on SiteGround, I took a chance and migrated my website to SiteGround and it was a great experience.
Now, in case I get any bug on my website or any type of error, I get my query answered in seconds. Now, I need not wait for hours in a queue to get live chat support.
Since I have migrated my website and after the use of SSL, I have seen an improvement in my keyword rankings too. Google loves the website which faces the least downtime and HostGator was giving so much downtime that I started facing drops in my keyword rankings.
So, what are your views on SiteGround web hosting? Did you like this SiteGround Review?
